The Sandwich has become a versatile part of Café Culture in its many and varied forms to tantalise your palate. (And Just Eat deliver them by the pallet-load.) As well as the French Pain au Chocolat, there’s the sublime Croque-Monsieur (aka a posh Ham & Cheese Toastie). Known as Tost in Italy and Tosti in Holland it oozes cheesiness (and hamminess) for a nice, light bite. On that subject,‘Croque’ means bite – and a Croque-Madame is the same toastie but with a poached or fried egg on top. (Oeuf!)
